From the article: Should You Fear H1N1 Swine Flu?
There have been some deaths reported, and swine flu is being identified in countries all over the world. What are your fears and concerns about swine flu? Share Fears and Concerns
It's exaggerated.
- I agree 100% with this article. The government is just trying to scare us. People who died of the Swine Flu usually had some other sort of ailment.

Concern / Anxiety
- Due to my Immune System being compromised, I do have a lot of anxiety about the H1N1 Flu Virus. The vaccine schedule does not list this as a priority for receiving the vaccine when it is first available. I subscribe to a number of medical newsletters that have been quite helpful in providing up-to-date information. The Seasonal Flu Vaccine is available now; I received it this week. It is important to receive both this vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available.

Flu...INCOMING!
- To be honest, I am not a huge worrier. However, with fall coming, I find myself quite scared about the disastrous conditions ahead. How will we cope? How will we find the courage to get up in the morning? How will we find the courage to LEAVE OUR HOUSES? Leaving my house is the biggest of my endless concerns. I would love to find an H1N1 support group--I can't tackle this on my own. I would greatly appreciate any help! On another note, my employer (the National Center for Disease Control in Animals) has recently informed me that there is a large risk of penguins and elk becoming ill with the Swine Flu. While you are probably not concerned about this, the truth is that the penguins and elk need our help. They need the help of the world community to help them survive. Thanks for taking the time to read.

worries
- I am 75yr old woman and have impaired immune system - am I more likely to get very ill if I contract swine flu? ..... Answer: We are told by experts that people with compromised immune systems are susceptible to flu. It seems to be more about your immune system and less about your age. Here's more info from the CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/guidance_homecare.htm

my 16 month old has swine..i think
- i took my son to the doctor today and he asked me if i wanted him to run a swine test.. so i said of course . after 10 min the doctor came back in and said the results came up showing slightly positve for swine.. i asked him what it ment and he said it seems like hes had it for a couple of days and we didnt know it, and he also said he seems to be towards the end of it. but is it possible to not have severve symptoms and still have the swine flu?? im aslo freaking out that something bad is going to happen to my little man, im scared hes going to die ... .........answer: Freaking out will certainly not help your child get well. You need to empower yourself w/ information so you can take care of your child. This flu seems to be so much less harmful than the seasonal flu. Here's info from the CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/parents/

Not sure what to think
- Well I am not all completely scared of this virus, but im the type of person who gets sick a lot during the summer. I have had a cold or the flu 3 months in a row so what makes me afraid is what if i get sick once again. I mean my immune system may be quit strong because I have gotten the cold or flu so many times, but what i want to know is who is more likely to catch the swine flu. children teens or adults. Also who is more likely to die from this virus............... Answer from Trisha: During seasonal flu time, we know that it's people with compromised immune systems who are more at risk, but so far there doesn't seem to be any "rule" about who is most at risk for H1N1 swine flu. Best to keep up with hygiene and if you have more questions, check in with your primary care physician.

The fears are exaggerated
- The flu is being completely blown out of proportion. The flu has great potential, yes...but there are several unexplored factors. Regarding the deaths in Mexico, the standard of living there is not quite as high-quality as it is in the United States or Europe, and even the young, strong people are weaker in terms of resistance than some people. In addition, the Spanish Flu of 1918, one of the deadliest flu strains ever evolved, had many powerful systems in place, and thus had a higher fatality rate. It also did not aid matters in the fact that at the time, the world was fragmented and ill at ease with each other, due to the weeks-old Treaty of Versailles, ending World War I, and international aid could be hampered, and viral spread would be aided by soldiers going home. I personally believe that our safety measures, precautions, and efforts will slow any spread of the flu until a vaccine can be developed.

Comparing Apples Oranges
- You can't compare the 1918 flu epidemic to today's flu. In 1918, scientists did not know what caused the flu or even how it was spread. They had no microscopes capable of seeing viruses. Today scientists have already identified the strain of this particular virus, and by taking precautions, most people can most probably avoid it or get treated in time. Mexico had the bad luck to be at the epicentre before it was identified. But now we are getting hour-by-hour updates, and I read today that Mexico is already starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I also read panic stories, but I think you have to stay calm and take basic precautions. Although more cases are appearing in different countries, very few more deaths have occurred. And the CDC itself says that this virus lacks the genes of the 1918 flu.

Glad to see an article thats stops panic
- The article popped up at the top of my email. probably because it was mentioned from someone in a email previously. I agree there is no panic. I understand the possiblilty and scare of new strains of disease, but I feel we make it worse. We have a god given immune system. Its really really horrible when you here that older and very young people die from the flu or measles. but we are better now than we were years ago. we understand that we need to wash our hands, cover our mouths when we cough, cleaning our home. I went to the doctor because I got a cold this past winter and realized how rediculas I was being. The best thing you can do for yourself is keep your sinuses running clean. clean them out. doctors always want to pump us with antibiotics. Do people not realize as much good as the antibiotics do us, they do just as much bad.

Fears and Concerns!
- I am extremely worried, I mean, I don't show any of the symptoms yet (apart from a runny nose and the sniffles, but that's something little right now), but people are making things so nerve-wracking! 'If there is a pandemic, and there very well may be one, 2,000,000 people in the UK are expected to die from swine flu!' This is ridiculous, there's a low chance of dying from it anyway, but of course in Mexico people have died, but they were the first country around this time to show signs of the flu. Really, all this kerfuffle about this flu is giving me the chills!

no fears
- There is no epidemic. The Gov.is just trying to scare people and cause more BS.As for praying away the flu......that is a scam as bad as the Gov. is pulling on people.Swine Flu is like most flu strains so dont panic just because there were 20 cases in a population of 200,000,000.Get a life and check things out.

Swine Flu Home Preparations
- There is no sense in being scared of the Swine Flu, but you should respect the seriousness of how quickly this flu can spread and how staying home for 4-6 weeks could keep you safe. The incubation period for the Swine Flu is 1-9 days, this should give you cause to fully stock your pantry. Freeze non-fat milk, breads and other foods. Be sure to have extra Prescription medicine and over the counter medicines on hand. Stock your medicine cabinets with Mucinex or other choices of flu and sinus medicines. Have lots of fruit juice and juice mixes on hand. Disinfect all incoming mail. Be sure to have lots of extra rolls of toilet paper (some get diarrhea with the Swine Flu) and have lots of tissue boxes (important to discard used tissues immediately). Washing hands and disinfecting home areas (door knobs, toilets, showers, sinks, etc. often.) Have extra laundry soap, wash bed linen daily. Wash towels and face cloths daily Air dry dishes and glasses Be prepared to fight the flu.
