Other patients can be a big help
- I have one better. In May of 2008, my husband and I drove to the hospital, because I was in labor. When I got to the emergency room I was told to have a seat and the receptionist would be with me in a minute! I was shocked and in quite a bit of pain to boot and I told the gal I would try not to give birth in her waiting area. The other people waiting actually got furious and told the receptionist to please take me first. She was a little put off to be told how to do her job but I got to go to the head of the line. Thank you understanding patients!

Use first names
- One thing I've noticed is that I try to equalize my relationship with my doctor by using his or her first name. I ask, "may I call you ___?" That's usually a surprise, but they seem to treat me better when I do. None of them have said no yet.
