Contraindication

Definition: Any condition that makes a drug or treatment inappropriate for a specific patient. The patient may have an allergic reaction to a specific drug, or an otherwise negative reaction, making that drug a bad choice (contraindicated) for that patient.
Pronunciation: con-tra-in-di-CA-shun
Examples:
Because Jane has asthma in addition to her hypertension, she cannot control the hypertension with beta-blockers, which are contraindicated because they may cause wheezing.
