Here's a heads up for those of you who have been looking for courses and certificates so you can build a career as a health or patient advocate....

A new program from Sonoma State University (California) begins this fall*. It is a two-semester program which results in a certificate of completion through their extended education division.

What's unique about this particular program is that it is focused specifically on integrative medicine, integrating training in both traditional and complementary-alternative-holistic approaches to healthcare.

While much of the coursework will be handled online, there are some attendance requirements, so you'll need to either live near, or be able to travel to the Sonoma region of California monthly.

This Sonoma State program joins the University of Miami (Florida) and University of Toledo (Ohio) in offering mostly online patient advocate courses and certificates. You can learn more about all three of these programs and more: Become a Patient Advocate or Navigator: Degrees, Certificates and Instruction.

*Update! The FAQs at the Sonoma State website say the application deadline is August 31, 2010. As of September 1, the deadline has been extended by 10 days.
