One huge advantage to my (almost) daily participation on Twitter is the fact that there are some people I would never have known -- and therefore would never have had access to their wonderful work on behalf of patients.
One such gentleman is Dr. Howard Luks. He's an orthopedic surgeon, practicing at Westchester Medical Center (NY) where he serves as Chief of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy.
His posts on Twitter rarely focus on orthopedics; rather, they are often about patient and doctor relationships -- observations, comments, questions, wishes -- like all of us, he is dissatisfied with any tendencies toward loss of that relationship.
So when Dr. Luks shared a link to his blog, with a great list of questions and ways to prepare for a doctor visit, I wanted to share it with you.
Take a look. Is this do-able for you? Are you this well-prepared? Is it complete -- or -- do you think he has missed something?
When we are well prepared for our appointments, then they go more smoothly, we don't feel so rushed, and it's far more satisfactory for both us patients and our providers. We owe that to ourselves, don't you think?
Seems like our outcomes should improve, too.
Here is Dr. Luks' list of what to prepare and questions to ask.

Thanks for sharing this. I’m about to go for a followup with a surgeon who isn’t always the best listener to begin with. At least I’ll have my info well organized! I might print out the list and fill in my answers so he can add it to my chart.
