Senior Death Warrants - Read Between the Lines

One thing I've learned from receipt of this email that's been making the rounds - I have friends who don't question the email they receive - they just pass it on. This one has now arrived in my email box -- oh -- a half dozen times? It would be humorous if it weren't so dangerous.

Have you received it, too? It's titled "Senior Death Warrants" and it purports to explain the horrors of healthcare reform. From claims about "Obama wants a healthcare system just like Canada's and England's" to a quote by Tom Daschle in Bloomberg, to the fact rationing will mean that senior citizens won't get heart care -- there are about 7-8 claims in this email that are not only NOT true, they are inflammatory, even grossly negligent.

I've deconstructed the email on my personal blog. To do that, I spent many hours researching, because certainly if those statements were true, I wanted no part of healthcare reform either.

Only two of the claims are true -- the rest aren't true; they are even dangerous. If you receive this email, forward a link to this blog post. At least let's get people discussing facts instead of lies and half-truths.

This problem of reform is contentious enough as it is. The fearmongering is just plain dangerous because in the end, we are fooling with people's lives. No matter which way you feel about reform, the only way to get the best outcomes is to deal in real truths.

I wish these letters would state the facts and not the lies and scare tactics. You can’t fight against something with lies and distortion as you’re leaving yourself wide open to being proven wrong and then what you say is untrusted! If these people that create them would put as much effort into getting att he truth and pointing out the real pitfalls, then you have good information to argue against it with. I am against Obama and against the proposed health care reform, but lets fight it with truth not lies!

I would like to see the portions of the bill that are in question posted here , along with clarification instead of a claim that…” its not true”

Ted – please note the date of this blog post was in 2009.

Eventually, the bill that was passed, and the law that is now being implemented in 2013 and 2014 are not the same as the one called to attention in 2009.
