An Online Course for Patient Advocacy

Thursday January 22, 2009

A number of you have written to me asking if there is somewhere you can take a course to learn to be a patient advocate.

I'm actually working on a course for you -- but this crossed my monitor this weekend, so I wanted to let you know it is available.

From the University of Connecticut Health Center: Health Ecademy. You'll watch a group of videos, and receive handouts for each segment. To describe the program, it says, "participants receive practical information to help them become better, more successful patients and patient advocates for their children, spouses and aging parents."

If patient advocacy is of interest to you, please take a look. If you decide to take the courses, will you let us know how you make out?

I am interested in physician patient advocacy. Are you aware of any programs or societies?

The courses I know about, including some that are graduate level, or for physicians, are found at the article:

Patient Advocacy Programs: Degrees and Certificates

Good luck… please let me know if any of these work out for you.
