3 People, a Big Blue Bus, and You -- Making a Difference

Friday June 6, 2008

I've just spent a delightful afternoon with Meg, Pauline and Blake and their big blue bus. Yes -- that's them and their bus (sorry the photo is so small). On the bus it says "Cover America Tour."

What does that mean? A variety of things, all related to healthcare. Meg, Pauline and Blake will spend the next three+ months touring the country, listening to how you have been affected by healthcare -- or a lack thereof. Problems with access, lack of communication with your providers, problems with prescription drugs, hospital infections, denial of coverage, inability to afford -- whatever your healthcare challenge has been. They're videotaping people just like you (or maybe even you) at dozens of stops along the way. The videos are shared online.

It's a huge undertaking and a major commitment. Can you imagine living in a 32-foot bus for four months with two other people you hardly knew a week ago? Such are their three lives through September.

The tour is sponsored by Consumer's Union, the Consumer Reports people. I've told you before about their many initiatives regarding prescription drugs, hospital acquired infections, healthcare access questions and more. Allowing these three talented people to spend several months allowing all of us to tell our stories, to share them with others who have stories... it's an incredible opportunity they provide to you. Cumulatively, your stories can make a difference.

When will they be near your town? You can check out the tour's map, follow Meg's blog, watch the already completed videos, join the email list -- figure out when the bus will be near you, send an email and they will contact you if they can arrange to record your story. Meg tells me they'll keep the map updated every couple of weeks.

And here's how to get in touch to let them know who you are, what you have to say, and where you can be found.

I wish Meg, Pauline and Blake godspeed and safe travel. And I wish you the will to contact them, and the wisdom to share your stories. Your fellow Americans who continue to suffer at the hands of the system need you to rise to the occasion.
