Hallisy, Author of The Empowered Patient, on NPR
Every year, tens of thousands of people die from mistakes hospitals make while treating patients.
Julia Hallisy, who I've featured here at About.com before, spent a decade in and out of medical facilities while her daughter Kate battled cancer. Julia saw first-hand the kinds of mistakes that hospital staff make every day.
One day, while her daughter was watching cartoons in the hospital bed, Julia pulled out a notebook and began to write down the lessons she had learned during her time advocating for Kate. Her notes became a powerful book - a guide to keeping yourself safe from medical errors.
